Experience - Tile Imprinting Course: Part 1 of 2

Learn how to prepare and roll out the clay then have a go at preparing your own 4″ tiles. Practise your imprinting into the clay on pre-prepared 2″ tiles then imprint onto your prepared 4″ tiles. By the end of part 1 of the course each one of us will have produced four or more imprinted tiles which in two weeks will be returned fired, ready for stage 2 of the course.


Itinerary

  • 10am Welcome, safety briefing, introductions.
  • Rolling the clay to produce raw tiles, labelling tiles.
  • Choosing tile imprint designs, making natural imprints.
  • Demonstration and discussion of firing, painting and glazing techniques.
  • 12.15pm Tidy up.
  • 12.30pm Close.
  • At some point in the morning there will be a break for refreshments

Clothing advice

Bring an apron (may be useful as we are working with clay) and wear comfortable clothing, of the sort you might wear for gardening. We will be under cover at the Bothy but exposed to the elements to some extent. A fleece may be useful or - if it′s sunny a sunhat and sunscreen. Be prepared!

What′s provided

All materials, tea/coffee and homemade biscuits. First aid kit available, please inform us of any specific medical requirements.

There will be a supply of leaves, twigs, seed heads etc. for imprinting the clay with but if you have been particularly inspired by something you already have, bring along such extra materials.
